Did you watch the Academy Awards? I haven’t seen most of the nominated movies so the Red Carpet dresses were the highlight of the night for me!

As always, there were as many shockers as standouts. As I made my selections for the best and worst dressed, I used three criteria:  Is it authentic to their Brand Style? Did it flatter their body shape? Did it compliment their highest beauty potential?

Here are my best and worst picks for the movie industry’s biggest visibility Style Statement making night of the year…Enjoy!

The Best!!!

Rosamund Pike

My top pick for best dressed! This dress has it all! It photographed beautifully and delivered a movie star quality level that was perfectly suited for the night. The bright shade of red stood out and complimented Rosamund’s complexion to enhance her beauty. The unique design of the bustier flattered unlike many similar styles that either flatten or appear too loose to stay up all night. The fit was impeccable, sculpted like a corset to carve out her curves and maximize her body assets. It was minimally accessorized to make all the gorgeous details of the dress the focal point. Standing ovation for this top choice!

22515-2

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson shined under the bright lights in this bold shade of green. Styling this dress with a matching oversized statement necklace was a brilliant and unexpected decision. Imagine how this dress would have looked if it were paired with a simple classic necklace…it would have been just another lovely vibrant dress in the crowd. Instead, it was a dramatic headline grabbing head-turner that was truly memorable!

22515-3
Meryl Streep

Wow! In a sea of color, most black dresses faded into the background. However, Meryl Streep stood out and held her own with this unconventional choice that worked and wowed! This look is in perfect alignment with her Classic Signature Brand Style. It beautifully flatters her shape, and elegantly elevates her beauty!

22515-4
Zoe Saldana

This dress is a celebration of a woman’s shape and I crowned Zoe Queen of Curves for the night! With her fuller than usual body after giving birth to twins three months ago, she beautifully filled out this dress with her ample cleavage and a fuller hip curve to give more drama to the feminine draping. She made this look have all the brand, body and beauty glow of a statuesque, Oscar-worthy gown.

22515-5
Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick’s floaty pink dress embodied femininity, highlighted the shape of her body and this gorgeous shade of pink illuminated her beauty! Its elegant simplicity was easy on the eyes.

The Worst…

22515-6
Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s style has been inconsistent on her last few Red Carpet appearances. She has been alternating between a feminine, glamorous look and her familiar risk-taking style for the sake of personal expression. For her Oscar appearance, she chose the latter with a voluminous dress that was oddly paired with gloves that looked more suitable for a good scrubbing in the kitchen than the Red Carpet. The exaggerated shape of the dress combined with the red-gloved accessory was so distracting and simply strange that she easily won her spot at the top of my worst dressed list.

22515-7
Gwyneth Paltrow

The giant flower clinging to Gwyneth’s shoulder looked like a bad bridesmaid dress design afterthought. The color of the dress was pretty and it fit her well but all was ruined with this overwhelming accessory that will surely help her sit at the top of most worst dressed lists.

22515-8
Nicole Kidman

The simple and sleek styling of Nicole’s dress is right out of her usual Chic Brand Style playbook. Buuuuut…this dress was a poor choice for Nicole’s rectangle body shape. To go from bad to worse, the orange waist sash just comes out of nowhere and looks too casual to be paired with this fancy sequined column dress. The pale color washes her out and does nothing for her beauty, all combined to make her an easy target for the worst dressed list!

22515-10
Jennifer Lopez

I don’t know about you but I’m tired of seeing Jlo’s breasts. Not that they look bad, they look really great, but they create tension! When I’m watching her very bare breasted appearances, I’m feeling tense, nervous that at any moment, there might be a wardrobe malfunction! Even though I know she and her team had tight control over these matters and there’s a pretty slim chance of that actually happening, you just never know. This is a beautiful dress, but I’m so distracted by the barely there fabric coverage that I can’t relax and focus on all the other beautiful things happening with her overall look. C’mon Jlo, give us a break with the boobs, enough already, way too much cleavage!!!

22515-11
Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o was my most highly anticipated Red Carpet appearance of the night. She has wowed and delighted us with her well-picked choices time and again, but this time her dress was a disappointment. I was surprised to see her show up in a dress with a poor fit. It draped at the sides rather than her usual well-fitting choices that always molded to the shape of her body. This dress is heavy, made with 6,000 pearls; it was trying too hard and that created the fit issue.
