The first rule of a great work from home wardrobe is to think of it as…a working wardrobe. Just as you plan and buy clothing to wear in an office, you can apply the same strategies for work/home style.
In building your work/home wardrobe, comfort and practicality are the priorities, followed by fit and style. If the clothes are comfortable, you’ll be happy to wear them daily and save the pajamas for nighttime.
In the steps below, you can create your perfect work/home wardrobe to look great and feel proud!
1. Plan how many days a week you will need your work/home wardrobe. This will determine how many pieces of each clothing category item you will need. Your wardrobe can be built in layers. It starts with a wireless bra, basic tops, fashion tops, pants in stretch fabrics, soft shoes for neighborhood errands, and light scarves to add a layer of warmth when you leave the house.
2. Go through your current casual wardrobe and edit. Remove anything that is:
Poor Quality
- Pilling (aka fuzz balls)
- Stained or torn
Poor Fit
- Unisex and/or shapeless tops
- Too big or too small
- Pants that are saggy or stretched out in the butt
- Gathered elastic or cuffs at the ankle
Too Young or Too Old
- Velour
- 2-piece hoody sets
- Pants with writing on the leg or butt (hottie, juicy, love, etc.)
Any items that don’t make you feel beautiful or proud
Once you have cleared your closet, now it’s time to create a list of what you need before you begin shopping.
3. When adding tops to your wardrobe, build it with a color palette in mind. Create a list of colors that make you feel good and look beautiful against your face. For the most comfortable choices, choose soft fabrics with a little stretch.
For pants, the same fabric approach applies. Look for an excellent fit. For the best fit from the back, the back seam should follow the curve of your butt rather than sag in this area. Be mindful of length, pants should be floor length.
