Women often contact me after seeing themselves in a photo. They’ve taken a look at their picture, gasped in disbelief and thought, “I can’t believe I looked like that!” It’s usually because they didn’t like how their body looked in the photo or didn’t like their style. They had an abrupt awakening, they don’t want to look like ‘that’ again, they want to make a change, they want support…and that’s where I come in.
You may think your outfit looks great when you see yourself in the mirror, and it does. But when dressing for the camera, different rules apply, and that’s how you can get a surprise when you see your photos later.
If you can relate to this scenario or you’ve looked at photos of yourself that make you cringe, I’ll share a few tips about how you can decrease the odds of shocking yourself again. By following a few simple steps, you can increase the odds of loving how you look when you step out and not fearing the camera ever again!
Take a camera test before you leave the house
When you are trying on outfits, take a preview shot to see how the outfit photographs before you leave the house. This is a quick and simple way to know if the outfit works for the camera.
Wear clothes close to your body
Oversized and shapeless clothes look great in person but often add bulk and pounds on film. This is a time to dress for your shape and wear body conscious clothing. If you are unsure or nervous to wear more fitted clothes, checkout my tips about how to dress for your shape: Dress for Your Shape, Not Your Size to Have Great Style!
Avoid patterns and prints
While patterns and prints look great in person, they often don’t photograph well. They can look distorted on film and also can make you appear larger. The best look for the camera is solid colors. Almost any color will do just fine, although bright colors are the best, they look vibrant and stand out beautifully.
Strike a pose
For pictures, attitude is everything! This is a time when you can have fun and show your personality for a photo you’ll love. Many women say they don’t know what to do with their arms or don’t know how to pose.
