Is your hairstyle in alignment with your authentic style?

I was recently working with a client who came to me after she changed her hair. She had been wearing her hair in a very conservative bob for many years. She grew it slightly longer, added a purple streak and felt like she finally found herself at 43. But when she put on the same clothes she had been wearing, something felt out of alignment and she wanted to find her style.

Through our work together, she learned that she had been living all her life in the Classic style. She grew up in a traditional, conservative environment and her parents were Classic. As a result of her style assessment, it was revealed that her authentic style was Edgy. Now it was all starting to make sense!

I showed her the type of styles, accessories, colors and shapes that would reflect the look and feel of a style with Edge. She was ready to embrace the authentic style that she believed was in her soul. When her Edgy style was paired with her new hairstyle, she felt in complete alignment and felt like she was in complete alignment.

That experience heightened my awareness about the importance of our hair and how it is an integration in our overall look and how we feel. To know your style and wear your hair in a seamless way that is in alignment gives you a look that unquestionably says who you are and gives you the ultimate in a completely polished presentation.

Here are a few examples of high profile women who wear their hair is in complete alignment with their style.

Michelle Obama/Classic:

Off the forehead, side swept or full bangs, Michelle Obama stays close to her Classic style roots with a short bob and pearls for head to toe consistency.

Jamie Lee Curtis/Global:

Her hair has been more of a social/political statement about embracing her authenticity and thumbing her nose at Hollywood beauty convention, Jamie Lee Curtis walks her talk from head to toe. She is in perfect alignment with her Global values and shows her need for individuality and self-expression.

Jennifer Lopez/Glam:

Whether it’s worn curly, straight, up or down and paired with something sparkly, Jennifer Lopez keeps her hair long and loose to reflect her uber glamorous style.

Halle Berry/Chic:

Halle changes her hair between close cropped short to long and curly. The short style works so much better for her Chic style rather than the long glamorous hair that is not in alignment with her authentic style.
