First impressions are made within 30 seconds and your style speaks volumes before you even say a word. If you’d like to make an impression that is the most accurate about who you are, your clothing is the fastest and most powerful way to non-verbally communicate your message.
Your clothing and overall appearance gives us insight into your values and personality. You attract or repel people and opportunities based on the message you communicate. When you project an image that is authentic to who you are, you are living in your Style Statement, and that gives you a stronger foundation to begin mutually satisfying relationships in love and business.
To illustrate this idea, I have styled four different outfits using the same dress. Though this dress has classic styling with a bold color, let’s take a look at how different accents project four different Style Statements.
Style Statement #1 – Classic
By pairing the dress with a classic blazer and small-scale jewelry, it communicates traditional values.
Image Communicates:
This look is traditional with a modern interpretation. The tailored pieces in crisp fabrics look practical and reliable. The minimal use of jewelry paired with classic pumps says to the world, “You can count on me.”
Style Statement #2 – Glam
The use of faux fur and sparkly jewels makes a bold statement. It shows you have a flair for the dramatic and don’t mind being seen.
Image Communicates:
This look is sophisticated, feminine and glamorous. You appear that you don’t mind standing out in a crowd. Your style says to the world, “I enjoy expressing myself and won’t shy away from attention!”
Style Statement #3 – Casual/Sporty
The stripes and zippers on this jacket show your casual and sporty style. Your small scale, simple accessories and low heel pumps give you an approachable look that easily puts people at ease.
Image Communicates:
The striped knit blazer communicates a casual, friendly and approachable look. The ease of simple shapes in stretch fabrics allowing freedom of movement says to the world, “I am comfortable!”
Style Statement #4 – Global/Expressive
The draped, hand knit shawl shows you have a need for freedom of expression with an artistic flair.
Image Communicates:
The combination of artistic, handmade pieces with color shows your desire for personal expression. You enjoy having an individualized look with unique pieces. Your style says to the world, “I stay true to myself and follow my own lead.”
